Turkey has a constant IP Legislation for protection of both national and international trademarks. Being a member of Madrid system and a party to the major international conventions, Turkey implements a stable and uniform legal practice of trademark law.

All trademark applications are examined by Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TPO) ex officio in terms of absolute grounds for refusal. Applications passing this initial examination are published on the official bulletin for third party oppositions arising from the relative grounds for refusal.

After the opposition procedure, TPO registers trademark and the registration is valid as long as being renewed for ten year delays.

A trademark registration endows its proprietor the right to prevent trademark infringement with civil and criminal cases. Besides, it is a certain ground of absolute and relative refusal of future trademark applications to have a prior trademark registration.
